Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday 7/16 Results

Waterford, CT (July 16, 2014) – Waterford Speedbowl returned to racing after the week’s early rain and got another Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday racing program into the record books. Dan Moon of Exeter, RI was a first-time winner on the year in Super X-Car action to lead the way. Mike Christopher Jr. of Wolcott continued his hot streak in the INEX Legend Cars, Ken Morin Jr. of Old Saybrook won an INEX Bandolero feature that went down to the wire, and Rich Nye of Stonington was impressive in winning the evening’s X-Car feature. Charlie Wilcox outdueled Art Chartier in the Vintage Outlaw Modified exhibition race and Peter Pollard of Old Lyme won the night’s Wacky Race.

Christopher won for the eighth time of the year in the INEX Legend Cars Wednesday night series. He flexed his muscle early using the inside of the track to move into contention in the opening stages of the 25-lap feature. Scott Limkemann was the first leader of the race, showing the way until T.J. Thompson found room to his inside on lap-3.   Joey Ternullo and Christopher followed Thompson through the hole in the inside lane to move up to second and third.

Ternullo looked for racing room on Thompson out of turn four on lap-5 when Christopher darted to the outside lane. He was able to power past Ternullo’s outside and stuck with the top groove to wear down Thompson, eventually pulling ahead into the lead on lap-8. Christopher slowly stretched his lead as the race went on without a caution flag. Thompson and Ternullo waged a great battle for second position the rest of the way as Christopher won going away. Ternullo tried for several laps to pull alongside, finally doing so in the final laps but was unable to wrestle away the position. Thompson came out on top for the runner-up spot over Ternullo while Cassandra Cole had a strong fourth place effort.

Moon ran a great race to claim the 25-lap Super X-Car feature. He won a week after his son, Kevin, won in the division. Moon controlled the entire race and pulled away over each of four restarts including the final one, which came on the final lap. He bested point leader Ray Reed over the green-white-checkered flag finish. R.J. Cunningham turned in his best performance of the year to claim second position and Reed landed his eighth consecutive podium finish in third.

Nye took advantage of a good starting spot in the 25-lap X-Car race to pull out front on lap-3. He led as the division’s heavy hitters moved in behind, but held off all challenges over the race which was slowed by four caution flags. Nye got away from his competition each time and powered to the win. Zac Thomas finished second and Eric Finkbein Jr. was third.

Morin chased last year’s champion, Anthony Marvin, over most of the 15-lap INEX Bandolero feature. Marvin jumped to the lead after starting the race in the pole position while Morin quickly moved into second. He gained on Marvin until he was on the leader’s rear bumper, then pulled to the outside lane as the race reached halfway. Morin stayed to Marvin’s outside the rest of the way and the two put on a great display of clean hard racing for the win. Morin was able to streak out of turn four to grab the checkered flag by a bumper. Marvin was second and Jonathon Puleo was third.
