Sunday 5/26 Memorial Day Madness Results

Waterford, CT (May 26, 2013) – Waterford Speedbowl beat Mother Nature’s early stranglehold on Memorial Day weekend to kickoff a summer of fun and thrills with its annual Memorial Day Madness event. Pete Zaikarite of Niantic captured the checkered flag in the Enduro race, Chris Logan of Middletown championed the Trailer Race and Matthew Westover of Gales Ferry mastered the Flagpole Race. Steve Dubois of Uxbridge, MA registered the big hits to claim the Demolition Derby and Robert Strange of Groton won the Ski Car Race. One of the region’s first aerial fireworks displays capped the night’s on-track action.

Zaikarite proved the craftiest of competitors in the 50-lap Enduro race. He took the lead on lap-8 and motored out to nearly a full track length lead. Over the second half of the race however, Frank Shepard of Bozrah closed in and challenged Zaikarite’s lead in what shaped up to be an exciting conclusion. Zaikarite held off Shepard to claim the victory.

Logan won his second consecutive Speedbowl Trailer Race in the Memorial Day Madness event at the track.

In the night’s Demolition Derby, Dubois delivered plenty of richter-scale registering hits on the field to capture the title.

The 10-lap Flagpole Race was an entertaining battle at the front among veteran Brad Voglesong, Dan Yagmin and Westover. Westover took over halfway through the race and held off a determined Yagmin to claim the checkered flag in first-ever time entering the event.

Strange jumped out front from the drop of the green flag in the Ski Car Race, trading his rear wheels for a pair of skis mounted in place. Strange was never seriously challenged in the challenging 15-lap event.

The Speedbowl returns to action three times over the upcoming week, beginning with Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday featuring free youth grandstands admission. “Sho & Go at the ‘Bowl” returns Friday evening before NASCAR racing takes over on Saturday with Four Cylinder Fury. The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified® and Bob Valenti Auto Mall Late Model divisions are joined by a lineup celebrating four cylinder racers.
