Speedbowl awards Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday competitors for 2011

Waterford, CT (September 28, 2011) – Waterford Speedbowl honored drivers in its Wild ‘n Wacky series Wednesday evening at the track for their 2011 season accomplishments.   Over 200 guests attended the ceremonies held under the hospitality tent on track grounds.  The top-five drivers and teams from each of the series’ four divisions – Legends Cars, Bandoleros, Super X-Cars and X-Cars were recognized along with special recognition award winners.  The track’s top Rookie drivers, the Most Improved Drivers and the Sportsmen of the Year in each division were named.


Dana Dimatteo of Farmington was presented his championship trophies for the Legends Cars division.   Top Bandolero honors went to 12 year-old Rachel Forte of Douglas, MA, the youth division’s second consecutive female champion.  Frank Alessio of Colchester and Pete Zaikarite of Niantic were presented championship hardware for their Super X-Car and X-Car titles, respectively.


Earning Rookie of the Year honors for top first-year competitors were Nicholas Lascuola of Brockton, MA for the Legends Cars, third-generation racer Jacob Perry of Pawcatuck in the Bandoleros, Ed Ryan of Preston in the Super X-Cars and Christopher Lee of Uncasville in the X-Cars.


The Most Improved Drivers from a year ago were Dave Garbo Jr. of Stonington, who claimed seven victories during the Wild ‘n Wacky season in the Legends Cars and Forte in the Bandolero’s after she moved from tenth in the season standings a year ago to the championship.  The Super X-Car Most Improved Driver was Dan Moon from Exeter, RI after he jumped up to sixth in the division standings and placed several top finishes.   Chris Garside of Waterford was named Most Improved in the X-Cars after being a weekly contender for victory, claiming two for the year.


Sportsmen of the Year in the respective divisions included Ed Field of Deep River for Legends Cars, Rene Morgillo of Niantic in the Bandoleros, Peter Pollard of Old Lyme for Super X-Cars and Mike Marvin of Colchester in the X-Cars.  Those drivers were recognized for their unwavering support of the Wild ‘n Wacky series and their fellow competitors.
